About Your Purchase

What makes each piece original?

Every piece of pottery is a unique work of art, and even if I make more than one of a design each piece is slightly different and an original work of art. I personally make each piece by hand from start to finish. In printmaking I make a certain number of prints from each woodblock I carve, and all the prints in the series are identical. But when you buy one of my pots it is like a very limited edition of one, because the way I throw the piece, apply slip and draw, carve or glaze is individual to that pot.

Can I eat food from my pottery?

Yes. All of the pottery I make is lead-free and is safe to eat from. You can enjoy your pot on a table or shelf, but I feel you experience it so much more personally when you eat or drink from it (or fill it with flowers cut from your garden, or water your plants with it, etc). The pot becomes more meaningful artistically as layers of your experiences are added to it. Now that is performance art! You can cook in the oven with your pottery- remember I fired it in my kiln to over 2200 degrees. You can also use it in the microwave, some clays hold more heat than others so handle carefully. You can also store food in pottery in the refridgerator or freezer. As with all cookware sudden changes in temperature can break pottery, so no trips directly from the oven to a sink full of water. Let your pot heat up and cool down gradually.

How do I clean my pottery?

Handle your pottery gently. Everything can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
